SAS

 
 
This is a four-part course. Course will be held IN-PERSON on 10/5/21, 10/6/21, 10/7/21, and 10/8/21.

SAS part 1 of 4 will give an introduction to the SAS system and SAS windows. Topics to be covered include:

• creating and saving SAS programs
• reading in data from simple and complex text data sets
• typing variables
• obtaining frequencies, contents, and univariate statistics

SAS 2/4 will cover:

• formatting variable venues
• creating SAS libraries for storing and retrieving SAS data sets and format files
• reading raw data from external files
• creating new SAS data sets from existing SAS data sets, subsetting by observation and by variable

SAS 3/4 will cover:

• how to create new SAS data sets combining information from multiple existing SAS data sets
• how to sort, concatenate, interleave, and merge data sets
• how to perform the t-test, and test for no association in a contingency table

For SAS 4/4, attendants will be allowed to suggest topics. Past topics include variable retyping, creating SAS datasets from SAS output; creating html and Microsoft Word tables, ANOVA, importing and exporting Excel files.

Please Note: Attendees must bring a laptop to this course with SAS (free 14-day trial of SAS software available from programmer) already loaded. SAS software will not be provided. If you are part of the UNC community, you can access SAS on the virtual lab.

Instructor: Chris Wiesen

Dr. Wiesen is a Senior Statistical Research Consultant at the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). He offers consulting services to graduate students and faculty in the UNC system. He also teaches short courses on various software packages including SAS and Stata and topics on quantitative analysis and Introduction to Survey Computing. Before the Odum Institute, he worked for a year at the National Institute of Statistical Sciences, for two years visiting Duke University, and three years at the Research Triangle Institute (now Research Triangle International).

He is an expert in methods widely used in social and health sciences. Dr. Wiesen has extensive experience in statistical methods widely used in a variety of social science, public health and medical research areas. His project experience has focused on selecting, developing and implementing optimal analysis methods for academic and non-academic research among a variety of fields as diverse as psychology, sociology, medicine, public health, linguistics, education and geography.

• $20 deposit required to hold your spot (deposit is refundable upon your attendance for at least 66% of the course)

Registration closes at 12:01am, October 2, 2021. Once registration closes, no late registrations will be accepted, no exceptions.
• Cancellation/ Refund Policy: A full refund will be given to those who cancel their registration no later than 10 days prior to the course. If you cancel within the 10 days prior to the class, no refund will be given. Please allow 30 days to receive your refund.
