Julia Cardwell is a third year Ph.D student in Geography at UNC- Chapel Hill. She graduated with a B.A in Environmental Studies from Davidson College and worked at the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality before coming to UNC. Her research interests generally relate to the social and environmental impacts of extreme weather events, and her recent research projects have included analyzing local news sentiment in North Carolina after Hurricane Florence, examining community perception of a buyout program in Charlotte, and investigating the equity of federal aid distribution after Hurricane Florence and Matthew.
