Before he officially started to work on Dataverse-related projects at Odum in 2010, Akio Sone had been a member of the Dataverse developer team at the Institute of Quantitative Social Science at Harvard University.

Prior to joining the Virtual Data Center (VDC) project, the predecessor of the Dataverse project, in 2000, he had worked for the National Science Museum in Tokyo as a librarian and also taught urban/regional analysis at the University of Tsukuba in Japan.

He has a B.S in animal science, a diploma in library science and Ph.D. in geography (geospatial data analysis: Syracuse University).
