Jill Stevens is the educational coordinator for the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science at UNC Chapel Hill. As the educational coordinator, Jill supports the Institute’s Certificate in Survey Science and short course training programs throughout the academic year, as well as various summer workshops.
The Odum Institute’s Certificate in Survey Science gives graduate students and working professionals the knowledge and skills they need to design and conduct surveys & analyze and report survey results. Additionally, The Odum Institute is committed to advancing social science research through education and training.
Each year, the Odum Institute offers 100 short courses on a range of topics in the social and behavioral sciences. Jill coordinates the scheduling of these various courses available to not only the UNC students, but also UNC faculty, staff, and others outside the university. Various summer workshops the Institute is a co-sponsor of include the ICPSR program, the Qualitative Research Summer Intensive, Data Matters, and the Initiative for Minority Excellence workshop for Graduate Studies. Jill takes a leading role in handling the registration for Data Matters, as well as coordinating with the ICPSR program out of the University of Michigan for the onsite workshops held here in Chapel Hill. These summer workshops bring in participants from all over the world to Chapel Hill.
Prior to working at the Odum Institute, Jill worked at the Medical University of South Carolina as an admissions specialist for the College of Dental Medicine, Commencement Coordinator, and University Residency Officer. Jill also has an extensive background in the hospitality industry as a guest service manager and assistant manager at various hotels in the Chapel Hill, RDU, and Charleston, SC regions. Jill’s experience in the hospitality industry has helped her coordinate with local hotels to ensure that participants to these summer workshops are able to find accommodations to suit their needs while visiting the institute, ensuring they have an enjoyable experience while learning here in Chapel Hill.
