Assistant Director for Survey Researchteresa_edwards@unc.edu
231D Davis Library
***Please note*** As of March 25, Teresa Edwards has left UNC and the Odum Institute. She is no longer responding to emails requesting survey consultations. At this time, we are working on hiring someone to fill this position and continue providing survey support. You can still access Qualtrics support by emailing email@example.com. If your questions pertain to the Certificate for Survey Science or another matter, she will respond as soon is she is able. If you have survey questions, please feel free to email the general Odum account at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will do our best to connect you with other resources.
Trained in survey methodology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Teresa has spent 30 years designing survey questionnaires and collecting survey data for faculty members, federal government programs, and an occasional private enterprise. She is a Qualtrics Research Core Certified Expert, and has managed the campus wide Qualtrics program at UNC Chapel Hill since its inception in 2006.
In addition to playing a key role in Odum’s Certificate in Survey Science, Teresa provides survey design consultation to dozens of faculty, graduate students, and staff each year. As an integral team member on several grants each year, she participates in questionnaire development and pretesting, oversees data collection, prepares analysis data files, and contributes to reporting and publishing survey results. Her recent projects have ranged from a mail survey of North Carolina and South Carolina coastal residents about their attitudes on offshore wind energy, to online surveys of recently widowed parents of young children, survivors of adolescent and young adult cancer, IRB members and chairs, and probation and parole officers. Teresa says the best part of her job is helping investigators devise creative ways to address complex survey measurement issues using surveys that nonetheless appear simple, efficient, and minimally burdensome to study participants. She also loves the challenge of implementing a complex experimental design in Qualtrics.
Teresa is available to provide consulting and support in the following areas:
- Questionnaires that collect primarily quantitative data
- Choosing appropriate survey data collection modes and methods
- Pretesting and cognitive interviewing
- Drafting survey invitations and informed consent statements
- Computational reproducibility
- IRB Applications for survey projects
