Cheryl Thompson
Research Data Archivist
odumarchive@unc.eduCheryl A. Thompson is a Research Data Archivist at the H.W Odum Institute for Research in Social Sciences. She joined Odum Institute from University of Illinois’s Center for Research in Science & Scholarship, where she was a Postdoctoral Researcher examining data management infrastructure in astronomy with particular interest in the transfer of data practices and expertise across large-scale sky surveys.
Her research focuses on information infrastructure, specifically how to build and sustain data services, workforces, and tools capable of supporting scientific integrity and data preservation. She is a Carpentries Instructor and holds an early career fellowship from Whole Tale & Research Data Alliance (2018-2019). Thompson received her PhD from the University of Illinois and MS from UNC’s School of Information & Library Science.
As an archivist, Thompson hopes to promote the trustworthiness of science through better data sharing, transparency of practice, and responsive data education.
