Multi-Item Scale Development Part 2 (Online)

Part 2 of this course will be offered over two afternoons (11/7/23 and 11/9/23 from 1pm – 5pm US Eastern) via Zoom only.

Attendance is required as the course will not be recorded.

This course is the second in a two-part scale development course series on scale development. Part one of the series focused on the general theories and methods used in the scale development process. This second portion focuses on the analytic methods used to statistically test, refine, and validate scale data. These methods include Cronbach’s alpha, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and basic structural equation models testing for predictive validity.

This course will count as 7.0 CSS short course credits.

Instructor: Marcella Boynton

Instructor Bio:
Dr. Boynton has been conducting psychometrics research for 15 years, with an emphasis on health-related constructs. A social psychologist by training, Dr. Boynton is currently an assistant professor in the UNC Division of General Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology, School of Medicine and a biostatistician at UNC NC TraCS Institute where she provides statistics, research methods, and psychometrics support to a wide range of translational and behavioral scientists.

  • UNC Chapel Hill Students (including current Certificate of Survey Science program students): $0, with a $35 deposit to hold your spot (deposit is refundable upon your attendance for at least 66% of the course)
  • UNC Chapel Hill Faculty/Staff/Postdoc/Resident/Visiting Scholars: $80
  • Non-UNC Chapel Hill University Student/Employee (must have active university email): $105
  • Government/Non-Profit/Corporate: $130

  • Registration closes at 12:01am, 11/4/2023. Once registration closes, no late registrations will be accepted, no exceptions.
  • Cancellation/ Refund Policy: A full refund will be given to those who cancel their registration no later than 10 days prior to the course. If you cancel within the 10 days prior to the class, no refund will be given. Please allow 30 days to receive your refund.
  • Zoom link for this course will be sent prior to the course. Registration must be made at least 3 days prior to the course date to receive the Zoom link.
