Integrated Mixed Methods: Bridging Qualitative and Quantitative Methods and Results (Online)

This is a one-day course (9am – 3pm US Eastern). Lunch break will be 12pm – 1pm. Attendance is required as this class will not be recorded.

Mixed methods research (MMR) refers to research design and implementation that combines qualitative and quantitative data collection and/or analysis strategies. This seminar discusses best practices, through the review of exemplars and discussion of theoretical approaches, in “mixing” methods and integrating qualitative and quantitative research. We will focus on strategies, tips, and best practices to accomplish effective integration. We will focus on decision-making related to study design and execution, including writing up methods and results of MMR.

This course will count as 7.0 CSS short course credit hours.

Instructor: Shiri Noy

Shiri Noy is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Denison University. She has taught both graduate and undergraduate research methods, and has conducted and published interdisciplinary and sociological research across methods and in mixed methods. She is fundamentally interested in how we approach ways of understanding the social world, and how best to collect and analyze data that helps us untangle and address issues of substantive, conceptual, theoretical, and empirical interest.

  • UNC Chapel Hill Students: $0, with a $35 deposit to hold your spot (deposit is refundable upon your attendance for at least 66% of the course)
  • UNC Chapel Hill Faculty/Staff/Postdoc/Resident/Visiting Scholars: $80
  • Non-UNC Chapel Hill University Student/Employee (must have active university email): $105
  • Government/Non-Profit/Corporate: $130

  • Registration will close at 12:01am 1/26/24. No late registrations will be accepted.
  • Cancellation/ Refund Policy: A full refund will be given to those who cancel their registration no later than 10 days prior to the course. If you cancel within the 10 days prior to the class, no refund will be given. Please allow 30 days to receive your refund.
  • Zoom link for those attending online will be sent prior to the course. Registration must be made at least 3 days prior to the course date to receive the Zoom link.
